Kings go forth at the Sidewalk

Next Tuesday, the Sidewalk Cafe screens Kings Go Forth, a World War II film from a novel of the same name.

It is described as a film about race, love, and war. The plot involves friends of different backgrounds manning an observation post in southern France who fall in love with the same French girl.

She chooses one to love and the other to befriend after disclosing her parents’ history and why she lives in France. The men say it makes no difference, a wedding is announced, and the soldiers face a dangerous mission behind enemy lines. But is everyone being truthful?

This 1958 film stars Tony Curtis (in what he described as his most difficult role), Frank Sinatra and Natalie Wood. It was seen a as a brave film which tackled issues of race and miscegenation at a time when few other films were doing that.

Admission is free; the show starts at 7 pm as usual.
