So did Jesus really rise from the dead? That is the question The Vigil hopes to answer at the Theatre Guild, starting next Thursday.

Described as a “riveting courtroom drama” that seeks to uncover the truth about the disappearance of the body of Jesus Christ, “hoping to either give credit or discredit the possibly infamous or sacred Resurrection”, The Vigil will be staged at the Theatre Guild from April 9 to 14.

It is just around Easter time and because of this, people should be interested, one of the Directors, Mariatha Causway said. “[It is] healthy fun for the young and old”, she declared. Causway, who is also the administrator at the Theatre Guild, said that the staging of the play, written by Ladislas Fodor, will show Guyanese that the “arts is back”.

Persons in the cast include several of those trained during the Caribbean Festival of Arts and they have been rehearsing since January. The Vigil runs for six nights, beginning Thursday and tickets cost $1000 and $500 and are available at the Theatre Guild, from Guild members or by calling 225-4033. The play begins at 8 pm.
