She officially launched three competitions on Saturday last: Guyana Model Search, Designer Portfolio and the Best Stylist. According to her, the current crops of competitors are impressive and have already produced “outstanding work”.

Referring to the launch Sonia said the designers had to produce a show piece and based on what was displayed, one designer already has clients.

“It is amazing really because we gave them a piece of cotton and asked for an outfit and got fabulous work; work so good that persons at the launch placed orders,” Sonia said.

She mentioned that the designers this year are quite creative, and that a few males are also in the competition bringing a new flair to it. Sonia said also that the designers are assertive and focused, which is always a positive sign.

The workload this year for the competition is intense, Sonia said, noting that the designers are expected to deliver strong every time. She disclosed that there would be no elimination for the designers saying that the idea this year was to aid in their developmental process. According to her, the idea of cutting them loose simply did not come up this time around.

With respect to the models Sonia said that she is excited about the line-up. She said that the models have endured a few rigorous workshops and they are ready to go.

The television shows for the competitions are to be aired locally and in the region via the Caribbean Broadcasting Network. Sonia said the shows are interesting this year because of the keen competition, adding that the “public is likely to have an appetite for more”.
