The Miss Guyana Universe pageant ‘The Quest’ returns this year with a few changes.
The committee, for instance, appears to be smaller, consisting it would seem of only franchise holder Odinga Lumumba, his wife Nicolette Lumumba and former Miss Guyana World official and designer Derek Moore.
The list of candidates who will vie from the crown is more diverse with contestants coming from East Coast, East Bank, West Coast and West Bank Demerara, Rupununi and Corentyne, Berbice rather than predominantly from Georgetown.
The committee also appears to have made a concerted effort to mix beauty with brains, culling contestants who have had some tertiary education; at least one of them holds a degree.
The pageant was last held in 2007 and the current title holder is catwalk model Meleesa Payne.
Moore who is the artistic director of the pageant said the committee has 15 contestants confirmed and two more who could be added to the line up by the time pageant night, July 4, rolls around.

Who Got BRAINS
i agree
My grandmother is 93, she got brains.
LOL
I think Lucria Rambalak is the best girl for the job, she is charming and beautiful and the most intelligent of all the girls, she has what it takes to win, she will have the best chance for Miss Universe 2009
IS WAH HAPPEN TO ALL DEM NICE GAL IN GUYANA? DIS AH DE BEST? ME WIFIE AH WOK SO HARD IN MERICA, CAN OUT CLASS THEM.JUST JOKIN BANNA. AH WANDA IF I CAN GET A DATE WID ANY WAN A DEM.
Out of all the girls Miss.Rambalak is the best suited, She’s no dummy, she’s is the best placed and we really need to send someone who has a chance.
So when this girl wins,What happens next,Who will sponsor her the the main event ?.Because this is the problem,All we have is Idots who take charge and don’t know about beauty pagents. We need a proper group who knows to coach,Dress, and teach this person if Guyana has any chance to win or place.
Now I have a very large Aviation Business and won’t mind helping just to see Guyana in the spot light for a change in a good way.We sponsor many large events here and even did many fashion show due to our business.
Gorgeous Guyanese women indeed. I wish all of them the best of luck in their quest to represent Gt.
Though I am in no position to judge these ladies on intellect, my number one and two choices would be Ornella Ramcharan and Divya Sieudarsan.
Give it your best shot girls!
the girl who know to play the game n who can play her card well will win.IT ALWAYS BOILS DOWN TO THAT–THIS IS HOW WE DO THINGS HERE
Lucria Rambalak, is the one for me, I think she has the “Right-Stuff”, We may not make the top 5, but at least we can stand a fighting chance. Rambalak has the brains to impress the judges, she is well traveled and her general knowledge is very impressive, she would be an excellent choice.
