At last something different. It promises to be high in energy with a “carnival atmosphere” as one of Brazil’s biggest stars takes the stage at the National Park tonight.

 Pepe Moreno

Pepe Moreno

For the first time in Guyana, Brazil’s Pepe Moreno will appear live in concert with his band as well as another, Banda Desejo. Moreno was expected to arrive in the country yesterday, consultant to the promoters, Sheliza Alli told The Scene.

With the mega-artiste bringing some dancers in tow, she promised a “carnival atmosphere.” With his music blasting from practically every speaker and on the radio too, Moreno is undoubtedly the Brazilian artiste with the biggest following here. With the last two of his albums regularly given airplay, many know some if not all of his songs.

It can be recalled that during Carifesta last year, many hopes were raised when it was announced that Moreno was one of the artistes slated to perform.

Unfortunately that never happened and many were left disappointed. But according to Alli, a few of those involved with the promoters, WTJ Productions (owned by a Guyanese/Brazilian businessman) were from the same community as Moreno and got in touch with him resulting, in him agreeing to perform here. The other promoter is Xtreme Entertainment.

The singer, dubbed the Michael Jackson of Brazil, is hugely popular in that country and often performs to sell-out concerts of 60 000 to 70 000 persons. He has also performed all over the world including the United States and Europe.

The promoters have managed to get on board some prominent sponsors, including Banks Beer, Ansa McAl and Meta Airlines. Tickets cost $3000 in

advance and $5000 at the gate. Tickets are available at stores nationwide and members of the Brazilian community here are especially targeted.

So for those prepared to put on their Latin dancing shoes, it’s the National Park at 9pm tonight.
