The wider Guyanese public will now have an opportunity to meet Norris Mitter, the reoccurring character in the new Mori J’Von Comedy Jam, when  the show opens up to the public next Wednesday and Friday night at the National Cultural Centre.

While some may already know what this  new and exciting comedy show is all about – they were special invitees when the show debuted earlier this month – others now have the opportunity to laugh for the price of $1,200, $1,000 and $500, which ever suits their pockets.

In a recent interview Ron Morrison, head of the board that manages the new comedy show, had promised that the Norris Mitter character would be embraced the minute people got a ‘tiny dose’ of him. The opportunity is now here.

The Mori J’Von Comedy Jam is promising a fresh and innovative concept for comedy in Guyana and according to Morrison is to debut and sustain a weekly syndicated show in Guyana that would be filmed once a month at the National Cultural Centre in front of a live audience. The show will feature a rotating line-up of some of the country’s funniest performers including comedians, actors, poet and vocalists.

Ron, who owns the Mori J’Von Hanes Store, said the comedy jam is important as it is a much needed avenue to support performers who are constantly in search of regular work. The comedy sketches will naturally take on serious things, Ron had said, but pointed out that aim is to “bring a much needed de-stresser to the public”.

The show has signed performers for its first season which began on November 7 and ends on April 30, 2010. Contracts are renewable every season and though Ron feels the cast is strong, he said there is the possibility some people might not return because he is interested in discovering new people.

Once a month, close to two hours of comedy would be filmed and later edited to produce weekly 30-minute shows.

The comedy jam sees the likes of Habeeb Khan, Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones, Henry Rodney, Miranda Austin, Simone Persaud, Sherry Ann Dyal, Joel Fraser and some ‘new, exciting talent.’
