Two die in separate suspected hit-and-run accidents

The police are investigating the death of two men who they believed succumbed to injuries sustained in two separate accidents, one of which is a suspected hit- and-run.

According to the police, on Thursday, pedal cyclist Ravendra Roopnarine of No 57 Village Public Road, Corentyne was struck down by a motor car.  The release said that Roopnarine, 28, and two other cyclists were riding along the roadway when he was struck by the motor car. He was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died while receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the police are probing the death of Mahase Sanichar of Zeelugt, West Coast Demerara, whose body was found on a roadway at Zeelugt around 9.35 pm on Thursday.

According to the release, the 56-year-old man may have been a victim of a hit-and-run accident involving a minibus.

According to the release, based on investigations conducted, three men have been arrested and a minibus detained.
