East Bank traffic restriction lifted

Less than a month after its institution, the Guyana Police Force has rescinded the restriction order which prevented motor lorries from traversing between Houston and Timehri on the East Bank Public Road, between 6 am and 11 am.

On December 20, the Guyana Police Force had implemented restrictions preventing motor lorries or heavy duty vehicles from proceeding north or south along the East Bank Demerara Public Road, between Houston and Timehri, between 6 am to 11 am.  The new order also placed restrictions on motor lorries or heavy duty vehicles  traversing the Soesdyke/Linden Highway between the hours of 1800h (6 pm) and 0600h (6 am). A restriction was also placed on motor lorries, heavy duty vehicles or mini-buses from parking along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway between 4 pm to 6 am.

According to a police press release, the restriction on motor lorries or heavy duty vehicles from traversing between Houston and Timehri on the East Bank Public Road, between 6 am and 11 am has been removed since Monday.

However, the other restrictions remain in place.

Following the restriction decision by the police, there had been an outcry from various sections of the society. Many had argued that the move was crippling to business in the country.
