Melanie man hurt in drive-by shooting

A Melanie man took a bullet to the thigh during a drive-by shooting in the city last night.

Marlon Mathius, 32, was up to press time awaiting treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for a gunshot wound to the left thigh.

He was rushed to the medical institution some time around 8 last night. Mathius, of Lot 225 Melanie, East Coast Demerara was reportedly at a city location when a car drove by and one of its occupants fired a shot in Mathius’ direction. The incident occurred shortly after 7pm.

When Stabroek News visited GPH around 9pm Mathius was in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Room. A group of friends and relatives, present at the time, declined to comment when approached by this newspaper.
