Melanie man was shot during robbery – police

Marlon Matthias, according to police, was shot on Wednesday night after he was attacked and robbed by two men.

Stabroek News had reported that the man was the victim of a drive-by shooting. However, in a press statement issued yesterday afternoon police said they are “investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 1800h. yesterday [Wednesday] at Croal Street, Georgetown, during which Marlon Matthias, 32 years of Melanie Damishana, ECD, was attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. He was shot and injured during the incident.”

Investigations, according to police, revealed that Matthias was about to enter a motor vehicle when he was confronted by the men who held him up and took away four gold chains he was wearing at the time. Matthias resisted and a scuffle ensued during which he was shot to his left thigh. The men escaped.

Matthias was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, police said, where he was treated and sent away.
