The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) last Friday started a training programme for casual staff who had their services from the department  terminated on 31st December last year, the first phase of its  regularization and reform plan.

According to a release from the GPOC, a total of 40 persons who were employed as casuals with the agency participated in the exercise which was replicated so that it was simultaneously conducted in Georgetown, Essequibo and Berbice.

The release stated that each location has at least one Area Manager and one senior official from the Human Resources Department of the GPOC conducting the training programme which will culminate with written and practical tests for participants.

According to the release, 21 of 25 persons who were released in Berbice attended Friday’s event while 4 persons from Region One and 2 from Linden participated in the programme in Georgetown on Friday.

The release stated that participants were advised of the training programme by Area Managers, the GPOC Human Resource department and via the media.

The GPOC stated in the release that it wishes to re-emphasize that unless persons subject themselves to the standardized process, they will not be considered for available vacancies and the agency also urged persons concerned to visit the respective Post Offices in areas identified for training.

The agency stated that measures have been in place to ensure a transparent and fair process for the selection of Postal Apprentices.
