Red Cross seeking donations to assist Haiti

The Guyana Red Cross Society is appealing to the public for emergency monetary donations to allow it to boost its aid to disaster-hit Haiti.

In a press release the Red Cross said its volunteers in Haiti are currently assisting the injured and supporting hospitals that do not have the capacity to deal with an emergency of this magnitude. It said too financial contributions allow it to purchase exactly what is needed for the disaster relief operations. Monetary donations also enable it to buy relief supplies close to the disaster site which avoids delays and transportation costs in getting basic necessities to disaster victims.

The public is asked to make donations to the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry – CIDA account number 814213; Scotiabank account number- 109778 or Republic Bank Guyana Limited account number – 276-304-3. For more information persons are urged to call the Red Cross at telephone numbers 226-0384 or 227-1108 or email guyanaredcross@yahoo.com
