Second body found in Sussex St canal

Another man’s body was fished out of the Sussex Street Canal in the vicinity of the La Penitence Market yesterday morning, but was unidentified up to press time.

According to the police the only marks on the body were “fish bites” over one of the eyes.

The body was taken to the Lyken’s Funeral Home and a post-mortem examination is expected to be performed tomorrow. This is the second body to have been found in the canal in as many days.

On Friday, Victor Austin, 79, of D’Urban Street was found dead in the canal and while no foul play is suspected police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
