Mahaicony Branch Road reconstructed

Construction began in April 2009 and was completed last Sunday, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

The road  was previously constructed using chip sealing but now it has three layers of white sand as its base, loam, crusher-run and asphalt concrete on the surface.

Design Engineer in  the Ministry of Public Works and Communication, Keeraj Bisesar, noted that this type of construction will lengthen the lifespan of the road, GINA said.

He also noted that the asphalt concrete will prevent water penetration and add to the durability of the structure.

It was disclosed at a farmers’ meeting last Sunday that 230 roads are to be constructed this year. In addition 600 community roads on the coast are under construction.
