Shot Sheriff St businessman remains in serious condition

Bholanauth, the proprietor of E Zee Runnings Taxi Service, was shot in the chest as he attempted to defend his business from gunmen.

The man’s wife told Stabroek News yesterday afternoon that he was a patient in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“We visited him,” the woman said, “and he looked alright…but they are keeping him in the ICU so I guess he is still serious.”

Police in a press statement issued yesterday afternoon said they are investigating the armed robbery that occurred at about 8.30 that night. Bholanauth, police reported, was attacked and robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a hand gun.

Investigations, they said, revealed that the two men entered the dispatching section of the business place and held up Bholanauth. They took away his laptop and a gold chain then escaped.

During the robbery, police further said, Bholanauth “put up a resistance and was shot to his chest.”

Meanwhile, Stabroek News had reported that the man also lost a gold band. The robbery, according to reports reaching this newspaper Monday night, is believed to have been planned.

Bholanauth, 33, of Owen Street, Kitty was later rushed to the hospital by an employee.

Investigations into the matter are continuing but police are yet to make an arrest.
