Skeleton found at Canal No. 2

The partial remains of a skeleton were yesterday morning discovered on cane land aback of the Bel-Lu Clay Brick Factory, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara.

From all indications the body is that of a man and had been there for some time. One side of white Nike boots, a belt and green-coloured basketball pants were discovered near the body.

Grass was growing in the boots and between the rib bones that remained. The skull was intact and there were no other bones.

A resident of the area told Stabroek News that the discovery was made around 8 am after he and a policeman ventured into the area after hearing that there was a body there. The man explained that sometime last week, workers were clearing a plot of land in preparation for cane planting when they found the body in the thick bushes. The men fled the area and did not make a report to the police.

The resident expressed shock at the find adding that of late “lots of things are going on in Canal”.

Residents are clueless as to the identity of the remains. Police are investigating.
