Two Camp St prisoners die after brawl

Two prisoners died early this morning after they fought each other at the Georgetown Prisons.

Stabroek News confirmed that around 3:45 am today the two prisoners Solomon Blackman and Dyal Singh arrived at the Georgetown Hospital mortally wounded.

Solomon Blackman

Blackman -was a double-murder accused after he went berserk at the Brickdam Police Station in March of 2004 and allegedly shot dead  Deputy Superintendent Richard Griffith and Lance Corporal Ramnarine Latchana.

Singh had been charged over the stabbing death of Stanley Bovell.  Bovell, a speedboat operator was stabbed to death on October 16, 2007 at Supenaam after a row over a borrowed knife.

The prison ruckus reportedly broke out sometime after 2 am and it is unclear what role prison authorities played to quell the disturbance. Hospital sources said the prisoners were badly wounded, Solomon turned up with broken limbs and Singh had serious injuries to the head. “They were cuts all over them”, the source said. (More later)
