Green remembers Rex Nettleford

Mayor Hamilton Green mourns the passing of former UWI Vice-Chancellor and celebrated Jamaican Professor Rex Nettleford.

In a press release Green said it was with great sadness that he learnt of Nettleford’s death. “I recall his monumental contribution to life in the Caribbean and the wider world, also his involvement in the development of our young people in the Caribbean,” he said.

Nettleford was also the founder of Jamaica’s National Dance Theatre Company. “Personally, I will miss him, for I can recall his candour and grace during our several conversations and his intense interest in the first Carifesta staged in Guyana, in 1972,” Green said.
