A mechanic is a patient of the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Hospital with head injuries after his brakes failed him and he ran off the road.

Vincent Gonsalves, 28, of Kwakani River Front ran off the road last Wednesday when his motorcycle brakes failed.

The man’s mother-in-law Kay Forde said time was wasted bringing her son-in-law to the hospital in a bus. She said the plane to airlift him out could not land because the Kwakani airstrip was without lights. There was no ambulance.
She said that the bus’s seats were removed and a mattress placed on the floor so that he could be brought to the hospital.

According to the man’s wife Abiola Gonsalves her husband is now “coming around”. She said he had suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
