Burglars nabbed red-handed

While, proprietor Lakeram Odit is grateful for the arrests and recovery of items, more than $2M in a wide range of pharmaceuticals as well as electronic equipment had already been removed by the perpetrators. In addition to the pharmaceuticals, a printer, a laptop, stationary, cosmetics and a C point machine were stolen.

When Stabroek News visited the business, it was not fully opened and a visibly distraught Odit was sitting inside. Bags that the burglars had packed were nearby. The ones they were found with are in police custody.

Odit recalled that around 3 am yesterday, he received a call informing him that persons had broken into his store and were fetching items out. The man said that since he opened in 1995, he has suffered more than a dozen breakages and after receiving the call yesterday morning he immediately contacted the police.

According to the businessman, when he arrived, the police ranks and MMC security guards-who are responsibly for a nearby clothes store-had already cornered three men and woman outside his store with bags of items.

The man said that a subsequent search of his store revealed that a lot more items had already been taken. He called it a big blow to him, since most of the items were purchased from companies on consignment.

The burglars gained entry to the store by cutting the locks on the front door. From there, Odit said, it was free access.

He also told Stabroek News that in the past some of the culprits have been caught. However, he said yesterday’s robbery is responsible for the biggest loss he has suffered. The Pharmacy will be fully opened for business today.
