The 49-year-old Linden businessman who was accused of having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl was further remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrate Court.

Despite a strong plea for bail by Attorney-at-Law James Bond, Ivory Leacock of 141 Dageraad Avenue, Mackenzie, Linden and proprietor of the S&J Cambio was denied bail and further remanded by Magistrate McLennan.

Bond told the court that his client was prepared to surrender his passport and report to the police station on a daily basis to assure that he would not flee the jurisdiction; that he was a man of means; and he was not likely to interfere with the virtual complainant (VC).

But Police Prosecutor Nauth objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant was likely to tamper with the VC; the prevalence of the offence; and the age of the VC.

Yesterday at the court, along with businessman’s relatives and friends, were several persons who condemned the alleged act.

While in the prisoners’ van Leacock displayed anger and senior members of his family were overheard begging him to control his anger and to let due process prevail.

Leacock is scheduled to return to court on March 30, for continuation.
He was accused of having carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15 years at his 141 Dageraad Avenue residence on February 5. He was initially remanded to prison on Monday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
