New Israeli Ambassador sworn in

President Bharrat Jagdeo recently accepted the credentials from Israeli Ambassador to Guyana Amiram Majid at brief ceremony held at Office of the President.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, Majid is stationed in Israel and would serve as his country’s non-resident ambassador.  He plans to focus on strengthening political dialogue between Israel and Guyana, opening up market opportunities here for Israeli businessmen and sharing Israel’s international cooperation experience in the social sector and other fields. In an interview with GINA, Majid said Israel wanted to identify and focus on projects that it can cooperate with Guyana on.

The release said Majid served as the Director of Western Europe in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2009; after servicing as Director of the South American Development.
The ambassador holds a Masters of Arts in political science from the University of Halfa and a Bachelor of Arts in general history and international relations from the University of Jerusalem. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Hebrew. In 1986 and in 1990 Majid won the Outstanding Honour Award of the Israeli foreign ministry.
