A Crabwood Creek, Berbice woman, who was abused by her husband on Monday while they were consuming alcohol, died after she reportedly fell from her stairs later that evening.

Esther Liloutie Albert, 44, of Grant 1803 Crabwood Creek, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Skeldon Hospital.

Her husband, who left the home to make a report to the Springlands Police Station, never showed up and has not returned home since.

Police sources told this newspaper yesterday that while they were not treating the woman’s death as a homicide, the husband’s disappearance has “aroused some suspicion.” Police, in a statement, later reported that the woman’s death is being investigated.

Stabroek News learnt that earlier in the day the man hit Albert with a broom about her body and also slapped her.

Their 12-year-old son told investigators that he did not see when his mother fell from the stairs but saw her in an unconscious state.

The man’s mother said he sent the child to her house nearby to call her to see what had happened and to bring some methylated sprits to try to revive her.

However, the woman said when she got to the house she lifted the woman’s hand and it fell and she appeared to be dead.

After arranging to take the woman to the hospital, she gave the man money to go to the police station to make a report but she has not heard from him since.
