At least 7 injured after minibuses collide

The incident occurred some time around 8.30pm. A route 44 minibus, with licence plate BLL 7173, was reportedly speeding west along the southern carriageway of the double lane highway, when it slammed into the side of minibus BHH 2594, which was turning from the northern carriageway to head south along Conversation Tree. The impact caused BHH 2594 to turn turtle.

It is one of several incidents that have occurred at the location so far this year. In January a hire car and minibus had collided and the latter flipped into a drain with its wheels in the air. The injured passengers were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Sherlock Thomas, the conductor of BLL 7173, told Stabroek News that his bus was headed to Georgetown from Golden Grove. It was the other vehicle, he reported, which made the sudden turn that resulted in the accident. “There were seven passengers in my bus,” Thomas said, “but I am not sure how many were in the other bus. The driver of my bus is currently being treated but as far as I know no one has been seriously injured.”

Meanwhile, Thomas also said that the traffic light at the location was not working at the time the incident occurred.
