Winners in the Region Six Mash 2010 contests were awarded with cash and other prizes at a simple ceremony hosted in the region’s boardroom last Thursday.

Regional officials along with Republic Bank representative Imran Sakoor (seated, second right) pose the winners of the Region Six Mash competitions.

The People’s Progressive Party won the prize for the largest float, while in the small float category Home Designs and Engineering Associates copped the top spot and Brick Layers Foundation emerged second. The float by Home Designs titled: ‘Why rent when you can buy’ was sponsored by Republic Bank’s Rose Hall Branch.

Prizes were also awarded for the Best Decorated Building. The first and second places went to the Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Company and Dave’s Television (DTV 8) respectively.

A Spelling Bee was also held as part of the region’s activities. The Number 48 Primary School emerged the winners in this contest, followed by Cropper Primary School. The winners received a trophy and a cash prize of $30,000 while the student who scored the highest points in the competition was awarded $10,000. Cropper Primary was also given a trophy and $20,000.

Other events held to mark Guyana’s 40th Republic anniversary in Region Six included a Children’s Costume Competition and Children’s Parade. A donation was also given to the region’s oldest resident. Chairman of the National Events Committee Faizal Jafarally was pleased with the response from participants and deemed the event a major success.
