Five persons suffered minor injuries when a car and minibus collided yesterday at the junction of Camp and Church streets. A Route 44 minibus, BJJ 9676  and a car, PLL 8222, collided at the junction where the traffic lights were out of order. The collision resulted in the minibus toppling at least three times and losing both its front and rear windscreens. Bus driver Judah Roberts said that the car was speeding and that he had almost crossed Church Street when he was hit, causing him to lose control. Roberts, who reported that he has been driving for 12 years, said he was “going at a normal rate” when the car hit the bus. He said he had about seven passengers in the bus at the time but no one was seriously injured. Blood was evident in the back of the vehicle and reports are that a woman suffered a gash to her head. She was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment. Another passenger, Shevon Todd, sat in a wheel chair at the hospital. She said she suffered injuries to her hands and her back.

The driver of the car declined to comment but it was noticed that the car had the letter ‘L’ on its front windscreen, indicating that the driver may have still been learning to drive. Most of the persons who were on the scene at the time indicated that the driver of the car was the wrong party and that he was driving at a fast rate.

Both vehicles were later removed from the scene as police began investigations.
