- after accepting bribe
Two police constables attached to the Kitty Police Station have been placed under close arrest for accepting bribes to release a man.

According to a police press release, one of the ranks was caught receiving monies from a man whose release he had facilitated from the Kitty Station, after the man had been arrested for possession of marijuana. The other rank who was arrested was on duty at the time of the incident.

The release added that it was reported that a man was arrested last Tuesday night and taken to the Kitty Police Station where the rank was on duty. An arrangement was subsequently made by the rank for the release of the man and $21,000 was handed over before he was released.

A further $9,000 according to the release, was demanded by the police constable which resulted in a report being made and a trap set. As the rank later collected the marked $9,000 in the Stabroek Market area he was arrested and placed under close arrest.
