A labourer was yesterday read a charge of robbery with violence when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Enrico Innis, 26, of 3W26 South Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara is alleged to have robbed Chandrowtie Tiwari on March 10 on the Mc Doom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, of one gold chain valued at $55,000 and a gold band valued at $22,500, the total value being $77,500.

It is also alleged that during the course of the robbery he made use of personal violence against Tiwari. Innis asked the magistrate if he could repay Tiwari and the parties agreed.

However, since he did not have the money in court, he was remanded until he can acquire the sum. The parties are expected to return to court on March 26.
