Cocaine ‘sweets’ found in mailbag

Some 4kgs, 103 grammes of cocaine in sweets’ wrappers were discovered in a Guyana Post Office Corporation mailbag by police narcotics officers yesterday at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, a release from the police said.

The police have since launched an investigation but no one has been arrested as yet.

And on Tuesday in the Upper Berbice River the police conducted drug eradication operations during which a total of 11 fields of marijuana under cultivation, comprising approximately 14.5 acres, were found and destroyed.

According to the release about 25,000 plants ranging in height between three and eight feet along with five nurseries containing an estimated 30,000 seedlings, 1,000 kilogrammes of dried marijuana and three camps were destroyed.

No one was arrested.
