Men confess to Digicel robbery

– lead cops to accomplice

The two men who were held minutes after an armed robbery was committed at a Vreed-en-Hoop Digicel Outlet on Wednesday, confessed to the incident and later led police to a third man.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News yesterday that a fourth man is now being sought in connection with the incident.

Persaud said the first two men were positively identified as being the robbers and subsequently confessed.

He said that ranks were later provided with information about a third suspect who was arrested somewhere in Georgetown on Wednesday night.

A police release yesterday said that around 14:15 hours, two men armed with handguns entered the Digicel Outlet at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop and held up the two female clerks who were working at the time.

The men tied up the two victims with duct tape and proceeded to take away a quantity of dummy cell phones, cell phones, cell phone cards and cash after which they escaped in a waiting car.

Quick response by the police acting on information received led to the two suspects being apprehended in a minibus at Crane, West Coast Demerara and the recovery of some of the stolen articles. Subsequently another man was arrested.

Charges will be laid against the trio shortly, the release added.
