Kuru Kuru accident victim to be buried today

Rudolph Joseph, the man who was hit by a speeding vehicle while on his way to a shop, will be laid to rest today as the driver of the vehicle made an appearance in the court last week charged with death by dangerous driving.

Joseph, 39, of Kuru Kuru, was struck down by a jeep PJJ 6498 at 7.15 pm at Swan Turn Kuru Kuru Linden/Soesdyke Highway, last Sunday. Joseph, his sister and some relatives were going to a shop at One Mile Kuru Kuru when the driver of the jeep lost control and hit Joseph. The vehicle then turned turtle several times.

Joseph’s mother, Judy Joseph, who had expressed concern about the burial of her son, has since received monetary assistance from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs. The woman said she received $30,000 and was thankful for the assistance.

Joseph will be laid to rest in his community at 4 pm today. According to his mother, the post-mortem examination revealed that her son died as a result of the impact from the vehicle. Judy Joseph said that doctors told her that her son was hit in the stomach area and that he died on the spot.

Meanwhile, the driver involved in the accident, whose name was given as Michael Singh made an appearance in the Providence Magistrate Court last week where he was subsequently placed on $250,000 bail. And Judy Joseph has since retained a lawyer, Jerome Khan, to look into the interest of Joseph’s wife and children.

Singh is expected to make another court appearance in mid June.

Meanwhile, Judy says that her entire family will miss her son who she was a “very hard working and peaceful young man” who loved music. He also enjoyed taking his family out for walks on the weekend she added. “I gon miss him so bad. There is this pain in my heart,” Judy told this paper yesterday. She added that her son was “very, very good to me” and “he love to help”. Judy says she encourages her family to grieve because she knows she can’t bring her son back and so would only want a decent funeral for him and compensation for his family.

Rudolph Joseph was the eldest of six children and leaves to mourn his wife of 13 years and four children who are six, four, two and nine months old.
