Dabydeen to be ambassador to China

Professor David Dabydeen is to be named Guyana’s Ambassador to China and according to reports government could make the announcement next week or earlier.

Sources close to the Foreign Ministry confirmed yesterday that Dabydeen was tipped recently for the post and his appointment is to be officially announced.

Dabydeen is the Director of the Centre for Caribbean Studies at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and he had also agreed to voluntarily serve as the editor of the recently established Caribbean Publishing House. 
He is also Guyana’s ambassador to UNESCO.

This country has not had an Ambassador in China for several years.
