Guyana’s Honorary Consul to Barbados, Norman Faria, died yesterday following a brief illness and hospitalization in Bridgetown.

Faria served as this country’s Honorary Consul on the island for sixteen years and a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that he “valiantly represented the interests of Guyanese resident in Barbados”.

Faria, was also a freelance journalist, whose work was periodically published in the Guyana Chronicle newspapers.  He was hospitalized last week at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Barbados. The Ministry, on behalf of the government, yesterday expressed condolences to Faria’s family saying it received the news of his passing with deep sadness.
