Probe underway in alleged sexual abuse by Chinese nationals

The Ministry of Labour has launched an investigation following allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of Amerindians by some Chinese nationals associated with China Trading Co.

The Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday said it welcomed the initiative by the labour ministry and called on the Guyana Police Force to investigate the allegations in the context of the recently assented to Sexual Offences Act.

“More specifically, the Ministry of Home Affairs is deeply concerned about the allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse by the said Chinese nationals committed against Amerindian girls and boys while in the employ of the said company,” the Home Affairs Ministry said.
