Decomposing body of East La Penitence man found at home

The decomposing body of a man was discovered in his East La Penitence home yesterday.

Owen Jordon’s house

Owen Jordon, 56, of 279 Freeman Street lived with his 93-year-old mother. The state of his body suggested that he had been dead for a few days and his mother was unaware. A friend visited and noticed a foul smell coming from the house and the discovery was made.

Olive Thomas sat beneath the house with a grim expression on her face when Stabroek News visited yesterday morning.

Her son, she said, had been complaining about an injury to the foot and had gone to a city hospital for treatment.

Angela Campbell, a neighbour, told Stabroek News that Jordon took care of his mother. Some time yesterday morning, she said, a friend showed up at the East La Penitence home asking to see Jordon. Campbell said that the man’s mother indicated that he was not at home. However, he became aware of a strong stench coming from the house and left to go make contact with the police.

On his way to the East La Penitence Police Station, Campbell said, the friend stopped at the house of Jordon’s niece and informed her of his suspicion.

It was Jordon’s niece, the neighbour said, who went to the house and discovered his decomposing body. Jordon’s body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour.
