Pomeroon kidnappers were foreigners, cops say

A week has elapsed and there is still no trace of Fabian Gonsalves, a 42-year-old boat builder who was kidnapped from his mother-in-law’s home last Thursday night by two masked men.

Police officials told Stabroek News yesterday that indications are that the kidnappers were not from this country but foreigners who just came for one reason and that was to take Gonsalves. There has been no demand for ransom. Stabroek News contacted family members but they refused to speak.

Villagers from Hampton Court, where Gonsalves’ home is, said that though family members do not want to speak with the press, they are in dire need of help to locate Gonsalves. They concluded that the abductors must have warned the family to be quiet.

Villagers from the Pomeroon River where the kidnapping occurred said Gonsalves used his mother-in-law’s place in Jacklow, Pomeroon to work and as a “getaway”. One Jacklow villager described Gonsalves as the type who will not get into people’s way.

Like his family members villagers are still confused about the motive for his abduction.

Police are continuing their investigations.
