Abandoned Linden newborn dies

Despite the valiant efforts of the medical staff at Linden the premature baby girl who was found in a garbage heap has died.

A young man Rawl Samuels of Wismar had reported that he was in the company of his uncle clearing a plot of land at the back of Wisroc Housing Scheme on Sunday when he stumbled on the  just born baby in a nearby a garbage heap. Samuels had told Stabroek News that he went to urinate and felt the urge to look around, “when I look around I saw this bag this little baby in a open mouth black bag.”

He immediately alerted his uncle, picked up his bicycle and rushed the infant to the Linden Hospital Complex. All the while the baby was alive. He said he was very scared and it was not until he reached the hospital that he had noticed that the infant was bleeding from the nose. At the time of the discovery the baby was wrapped in a clean blanket.

Hospital sources had said that when the man arrived with the infant she was breathing irregularly but they quickly stabilized her.

However, at approximately 05:00 hrs on Monday the care team was saddened when the baby succumbed.

No woman has sought medical attention at the Linden Hospital for conditions suspected to be related to complications from a recent delivery.
