Robbery suspect in hospital after swallowing rat poison

A rat bait popping robbery suspect is now hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after suffering an adverse reaction to the poison, police said.

Maxmillan Elvis, 39, of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara was fleeing from police when he was observed putting what appeared to be tablets into his mouth, the police said in a statement.

Elvis had been charged with robbery under arms and an arrest warrant was issued for him.
Ranks arrested him at about 10pm on Thursday and took him to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police station.
There, he began to behave disorderly and managed to run out of the station. “He was pursued by ranks who observed him putting what appeared to be tablets into his mouth and was subsequently recaptured,” police explained.

Police said that Elvis was taken back to the station where he began to vomit. As a result, he was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was referred to the GPH and admitted under police guard.

A police source informed this newspaper that it was rat poison that Elvis consumed.
Elvis was charged with robbery under arms following investigations into a robbery committed on Jailick Kumarlall of Jetty Squatting Area, Vreed-en-Hoop, which occurred at Best Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, on July 4. During the robbery, Kumarlall was held at knife-point and robbed of $12 000, US$100, and a cell phone.
