Rickford Lowe

Co-ordinator Work Services Group, Ministry of Public Works and Communications Rickford Lowe told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that SRKN Engineering and Associates Ltd of Guyana was awarded the contract to supervise the works.

The scope of work in the farming district involves repairs and paving of a total of 11.7 kilometres of roadway using asphaltic concrete and 7 km from Gangaram to New Forest using double bitumen surface treatment. Eight bridges and 28 culverts will also be reconstructed. Lowe said the contract is expected to be executed in 12 months from August.

He also said the project is being financed from the IDB-funded Road Improvement and Rehabilitation Programme. “It is a major accomplishment that this is the first substantial road programme that will be executed by Guyana Contractors and Consultants with 100 percent local personnel,” Lowe said.

Additionally, the Albion Road  is also under construction which when completed, will add to the numerous roads done in the district including the 87 km New Amsterdam to Moleson Creek road.

GINA said too under the capital programme for the region, 11 roads have been earmarked for construction which will provide access to farming areas and social institutions.
