Driver in Better Hope fatal collision has broken limbs

The driver of the motor van in the fatal morning accident at Better Hope on Saturday is recovering in the Georgetown Public Hospital after undergoing a six-hour surgery on both his legs which were broken in the collision.

On July 31, around 03:55 hrs on the Vryheid’s Lust Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) a motor van and a car collided resulting in the death of the driver of the car, Ravi Singh.

At the hospital yesterday, Khemraj Singh 46, of Buxton Sideline Dam, the motor van driver, was surrounded by family and friends. Both his legs were bandaged and he also had a broken right hand as well as bruises to his face. His family had requested that he not retell the accident since they did not want to further traumatise him.

According to a police release issued following the accident, Ravi Singh was driving motor car PLL 9680 when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with motor van PFF 2416 which was proceeding in the opposite direction.

The van Khemraj was driving had four passengers who also sustained injuries. According to one, Shanti Persaud who sustained a fractured leg, they were going to go buy fish. They all bought and sold fish.
