Bars face stiffer fines for minors on premises

The Intoxicating Liquor Licensing (Amend-ment) Bill was tabled in Parliament yesterday to increase the penalties for allowing juveniles on licensed premises.

The bill was tabled in the name of Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee and it will significantly increase the penalties already on the books in addition to making a provision for the revocation of liquor licences.

The bill amends section 50 (4) of the Principal Act and states that for a first offence where persons under the age of 16 are found on the premises the penalty is increased from $1,000 to $500,000 and for a subsequent offence from $3,000 to $1 million dollars. For a third conviction the penalty includes the revocation of the licence.
