A miner was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with the murder of fellow miner, Sylvester Simon.

Chris Primus, a resident of Moco Moco, Region Nine, was not required to plead to the capital charge which reads that on August 29 at Apaikwa Landing, Middle Mazaruni, he murdered Simon.

When asked by Magistrate Robertson if he wanted to say anything, Primus who appeared distant, replied in the negative.

He was then remanded and the matter put down for September 29 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Simon of St. Ignatius, Lethem, was stabbed to death and two others wounded during a fracas at Apaikwa Landing around midday on Sunday. According to a police statement, initial investigations revealed that Simon was fatally stabbed during an argument with another man.
