The aftermath of yesterday’s fire

James Ragnauth, the owner of the house, was unable to say how the fire started since he was at work at the time. Stabroek News understands that the fire started at about 8 am. During a telephone interview, Ragnauth said that at the time of the blaze his wife and granddaughter were alone at home. They managed to escape unharmed and were given a clean bill of health after visiting a doctor.

Ragnauth estimated his losses to be about $13M. According to him, many electrical appliances such as computers, televisions, and others items were in the home. He praised the work of the fire-fighters, whom he said were able to contain the flames and in so doing prevented damage to three nearby buildings.
