Man jailed for break-in at store bond

– alleged accomplice put on $80,000 bail

Two men accused of breaking into a store bond and stealing a quantity of items appeared yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry-Sewnarine at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that between September 7 and 8 at Georgetown, Sean July and Brian Griffith entered the store bond of Keron Joseph and stole items valued $314,800.

July pleaded guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny, while Griffith entered a not guilty plea.

July told the court that he committed the offence because he is unemployed and smokes cocaine. “Meh worship, I don’t work and I does smoke up cocaine, duh is why I thief the things,” he said.  He was later sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.   Griffith on the other hand in his response to the court said he is innocent of the charge and he was never present at or anywhere close to the virtual complainant’s premises on the day in question.

“I was never around there my worship, I din do anything and I have no knowledge of it,” he maintained.

The prosecution had no objection to Griffith being admitted to bail.

Griffith, a carpenter of 3516 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was later granted $80,000 bail. His matter was transferred to Court Three for September 21.
