Michael Jackson’s mom sues promoter over death

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Michael Jackson’s mother yesterday filed a lawsuit accusing the promoter of the singer’s planned comeback concerts of failing to provide proper life-saving equipment for her son, her lawyer said.

In the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Katherine Jackson said promoter AEG was liable for the actions of the “Thriller” singer’s personal doctor, who is charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s 2009 death.

A spokesman for privately held AEG said he had not seen the lawsuit and could not comment.

Jackson died of cardiac arrest at age 50 in Los Angeles in June 2009, just days before the planned start of the London concerts. Officials say he overdosed on painkillers, sedatives and a powerful anesthetic used as a sleep aid.
