A female security guard accused of stealing two cell phones and a quantity of cash from a man was yesterday granted $25,000 bail when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that on September 19 at Georgetown, Odessa Thomas of 49 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville stole two cell phones and a quantity of cash to the total value of $54,000, property of Carlton Sam.
The security guard pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to her by the acting chief magistrate.
Thomas’ attorney in her defence told the court that his client has no knowledge of the charge for which she stands accused. He then made an application for the woman to be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that she has no antecedents, has a fixed address, poses no risk of flight and has been cooperating with the police in their investigations.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford had no objection to the bail application.
The attorney’s application was granted and the accused was placed on $25,000 bail. Her matter was transferred to Court Three for October 26.
