Police issue wanted bulletin for Vigilance murder accused

Police yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for Leon Clifton Robinson, who is accused of murdering his former partner Dionne Stephens last Monday.

Leon Clifton Robinson

Robinson, 32, is wanted by police for questioning in relation to the woman’s murder. Anyone with information which may lead to the man’s arrest is being asked to contact police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2700, 226-2917, 226-1326, 226-2870, 225-6941 or 911 or contact the nearest police station.

The man’s last known addresses, police reported, are Vigilance Squatting Area and Lot 143 Friendship, East Coast Demerara. Robinson, police further said, is about 169cm tall, of medium built and is an African-Guyanese.

Some time around 10 pm on last Monday, Dionne was attacked by Robinson. The man, relatives have alleged, tormented Dionne continuously during their seven-year relationship before he finally ended her life at the back of her mother’s Vigilance home.

Robinson, who was wounded by Dionne’s relative, escaped towards the backlands. Commander of Police ‘C’ Division Gavin Primo had stated that police were doing everything to find the man.

Meanwhile, Dionne’s four children from an earlier relationship have been left in the care of her 57-year-old mother Desiree Stephens. Working 12-hour shifts every other night and caring for her grandchildren will be very taxing, Desiree said.

Two days ago, Desiree said, a social worker from the Ministry of Human Services visited her home. They have promised to assist her in maintaining the children and will also aid her in constructing her house. The woman currently lives in a small, two-room cottage. “Well, de house small in de day but it does get big in de night…me does spread up things and so on de floor for de children fit,” Desiree told this newspaper.

Last week she had received a $20,000 voucher from the Human Services Ministry for the children. They are to start school on Monday.  “Me couldn’t ah send them ‘cause them still na de ready… them de still crying and so,” the woman said.

The ministry had also made arrangements for the children to be counselled after their mother’s funeral. Dionne’s final rites were conducted yesterday and her children are to start counselling sessions some time next week, Desiree reported. “Me apply for lil public assistance to,” Desiree added, explaining that, “if dem approve it, me go get about $6,000 for a child.”

The woman said she is paid $18,000 a fortnight for 12-hour shifts she works as a security guard. This income, Desiree said, will not be enough to support her and the children.

It is important, she stressed, that she get as much help as she can. “Me go try with what me able and if anything happen to me, then me hope at least one ah de children aunty go be able to tek them in,” she added.
