CN Sharma now in T&T hospital

Channel 6 owner and Justice For All Party leader Chandra Narine Sharma was flown to Trinidad on Monday for medical attention after the High Court granted permission for him to leave the country and is still in a serious condition, his family says.

Sharma, who recently suffered a heart attack, was charged earlier this year with carnal knowledge of a child who was seven years old at the time. The charge stemmed from allegations made by the now 13-year-old complainant, who accused Sharma of molesting her.

He was granted $2M bail on that charge and his passport was handed over to the court. However, on Monday morning Sharma’s attorney Nigel Hughes approached the High Court seeking permission for his client to travel abroad for treatment.

Sharma, his wife, Savitree Sharma, told Stabroek News via telephone yesterday afternoon, is still in a serious condition. The woman said that she was at a hospital in Trinidad with Sharma and was at the time speaking to his doctor.

Sharma, she’d said, suffered a heart attack around 2-3 pm on Saturday while at the Dr Balwant Singh hospital where she had taken him for a check-up since he was feeling unwell. During the last two weeks Sharma had been hospitalized three times.
