‘Lil Mark’ shooting death a mystery – police

Mystery surrounds Friday’s execution of Mark Caesar called `Lil Mark’ and yesterday police sources confirmed that he and murdered hit man, Steve Jupiter were close friends.

Police yesterday were still trying to fit the pieces together but have so far come up empty-handed. No one has been identified as a suspect and no motive has been found, a police source said yesterday.

Deadly spot: Mourners yesterday marked the spot where Mark Caesar called `Lil Man’ was riddled with bullets on Friday night.

The source said two men grew up together and were very close. The police source also said that it was too early to tell if the two executions were linked.

When Stabroek News visited Caesar’s St Stephen Street, Charlestown home yesterday, a teary-eyed, Donna Aaron said that she did not want to speak to the media about her son’s death.

She said the newspapers were “writing dem own thing” about the incident. When asked why her son was killed, the woman said “Ah want y’all to bring he killers here to me”.

According to Aaron, the St Stephen Street address was her home and Caesar did not live there. The father of three apparently lived in Ogle but this newspaper was unable to find the house.

The grieving woman then said that she was satisfied and when asked about what, she said “He don dead, ah can’t bring he back”.
Friends and relatives of Caesar yesterday placed a black flag and some flowers at the spot where he was riddled with bullets; a short distance from where his mother lives.

Around 7 pm, Caesar who was standing alone at the corner of Broad and Adelaide Streets – his usual liming spot was shot at multiple times. Residents recalled hearing at least 15 gunshots.

“A light coloured car come driving from St Stephen Street side… I couldn’t see is who been in this car or how much of them but all I see is that they roll down the street [Broad Street] slow and then I hear the first bullet… is a man that been in de back seat been doing the shooting,” an eyewitness had recounted to Stabroek News.

The badly-wounded Caesar was left lying on the corner and his attackers escaped along Adelaide Street. Caesar reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to the head, hand, legs and other parts of the body.

The car transporting Caesar’s attackers, reports suggest, was seen moving north along St Stephen Street and would have driven by Caesar’s house before turning west onto Broad Street.

After the rapid discharge of gunfire, the vehicle then turned north onto Adelaide Street and used a route from there to escape.
Residents told this newspaper that it would have been very easy for the killers to find Caesar since he would be liming at that spot everyday
Shortly before the incident, Caesar had been speaking with another close associate. Minutes before the car appeared and the gunfire started, the friend reportedly left to buy a phone card at a nearby shop.

One of the dead man’s close friends said that Caesar is usually at the corner “with a crew”.
Caesar who was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital died while receiving treatment.
