Mahaica drinking spree murder accused for court

The Mahaica man who killed miner Deochand Sirkissoon during a drinking spree on Saturday is likely to appear in court today.

Deochand Sirkissoon

Police released the eyewitness who was in custody and has since indicated to Sirkissoon’s relatives that the man would be charged. Sirkissoon bled to death after he was slashed in the throat with a broken Vodka bottle; the wound almost severed his head.

Sirkissoon’s family yesterday said his death was unnecessary. A sister, Sandra, said another eyewitness has since reported that her brother was left in agony for a short while before any attempts were made to have him transported to the hospital.

Sirkissoon’s sister had reported that her brother returned from “the gold bush” on Wednesday last with a number of items to sell. He reportedly gave his attacker the items and was asking for his money shortly before he was killed. She said an eyewitness told police that Sirkissoon simply asked about his items during the drinking session and things escalated within a few minutes.

Sirkissoon’s attacker reportedly sprang up from where he was sitting and dealt him a slap in the face. This prompted a remark from Sirkissoon which apparently enraged the man who got up and broke a bottle. He rushed Sirkissoon and slashed his throat. The two men were friends and drinking buddies.
Sirkissoon will be laid to rest today.
